Some News and a Debate

It seems that my children's childhood journal is being overtaken by my desire to share my home projects. So I have started a separate blog called Ferry Tales. It is a place I can share my projects and creativity. Never fear. This blog will always remain. My children's childhood is priority in recording.
I am however debating and praying about turning this blog on to private. I will let you know if I do so. That way our loyal readers will be invited to read.
Now for those of you who want to see my latest junkin, thrifting, decorating, photography and dwellings come over and visit me at  Ferry Tales.
As always, thank you for following our family and adventures. Our hope in sharing our life is that you see God's perfect love in our imperfect life.
Have a blessed day!

The Progress of our thrifty home office.

I have been a busy junkin these last few weeks. I finally have a list of inventory of items for our home. I just sold quite a bit of stuff on CL, so I had a little bit of fun money to go junkin with.
So this past Friday, the kids and I loaded up and went to my favorite honey hole. Really, she never disappoints. I came out with a desk, a wing back chair and a huge box along with a few other small accessories.

We have a design in our mind of what we want our office to look like. Adam often has clients over here for designing house plans. So we really want it to be comfortable and yet remain true to our overall decor of the rest of our home.

So when I found these things, I was very excited. Now on with the fun.

I enlisted the help of Adam's mom to help me get all these treasures home. She was happy to do so. She also volunteered to show me her knowledge of Annie Sloan techniques.
So Sunday after church we got busy with the desk.
I love the bones and lines of this desk. I believe it is Queen Anne style.
This was this color before. Same as the chair color.

And this color after.
We painted it with ASCP in French Linen. We used the soft clear wax and just a tiny bit of the dark wax. We also lightly sanded the edges.
I am so happy with the results.

I moved my green desk into the foyer and I really like it there.

Here is some of the detailing of the desk.
This little letter holder on the right is actually a toast holder!
My Mom and I found it out junkin a couple of weeks ago.

I fell in love with this wing back chair. And while it is lovely in its current state. My mother in law and I are going to try to reupholster it. I have never tried it. But it will be fun.

This is the trunk/box that I also found there.
It was a little dirty. But I never turn down a good storage piece.
This is before..

This is the piece after I painted it with a mixture of ASCP Old White, French Linen and Duck Egg.

Amelia's Big Girl Room

Amelia's Big Girl Room is coming together nicely. We carried over her vintage floral nursery into her big girl room. It is still in a work in progress as I have a few other projects planned. I will share those as I get them completed.  I am really loving how it is all coming together.

I salvaged this old window frame from my elementary school. The school is in the process of being demolished.

I dry brushed this silver frame with a mixture of ASCP Old White and Duck Egg. I then used the dark glaze soft wax and then wiped until I got the aged look I wanted.
And as usual most items were repurposed, thrifted or gifts.

My Latest Thrifty Finds and ASCP

A couple of weeks ago the thrifting bug hit me once again. Yard Sale season is in full force here.
I honestly enjoy scouring yard sales, flea markets and thrift stores for things to decorate our home. The problem is making time for this hobby.

I long for a home of comfort and beauty.
God's Word tells us to dwell on lovely and pure things. He also wants us to make a refuge for our family. I feel like He has given me the ability to provide this refuge on a budget. A very tight budget I might add.
So the other day my sweet little sis followed me around cheerfully watching my kiddos while I had the chance to browse for a couple of hours. Natalie is such a good sport.
We hit my favorite honey hole and within a few minutes I found some lovely items.

I found these lovely frames.

The green frame I bought because of the beautiful patina. It wasn't until a closer examination that this print was professionally framed in 1972 with a guarantee that the print then was over 100 years old then. I only paid .50 cents for it!

I am really into glass containers these days. I am trying to organize my pantry with them.
I find these pretty much at every flea/yard sale/thrift store. They are usually really inexpensive.
I am in love with the old milk shaped bottles!
I think I spent a total of $19 for all these lovely treasures.

I have been wanting to try Annie Sloan Chalk Paint for some time.
My Mother in law and I took a trip over to White Goat in Little Rock and decided we would give it a whirl. I have only done a couple of frames in it so far and I love the results.

The colors I am using are Old White and Duck Egg Blue.
I am often asked how do I find treasures in piles of "junk".
I plan on doing a post soon on that topic.
Have a blessed day!

My Home Design Style {My corner of our Home Office}

I thought I would do some posts of decorating the house as we go along. As you know, I am an avid thrift store, flea market, yard sailing (yes that is a term, watch Flea Market Flip, she says so) auction shopper. It is amazing the things you can find out thrifting! I have cleaned up my style a little bit. It is a thrifted Restoration Hardware meets shabby chic, industrial, vintage, modern, hoarder turned wannabe minimalist, romantic, eclectic....
Yes, controlled chaos may be a better term.

I love the look of the house as it is coming together. Much of what I am using is what we already have collected.

I love all the character of my little space. I am sure I will be adding to it.
So this is where I am blogging from.

Thrifting

These days I don't get to go to junkin' as much as I used to and that is okay. And yes when I do go I take the kids. Anyway, lately  I have started to really look at the things that I love to decorate with and noticed a few things that I have incidentally started to collect. I do love a collected over time look. I love the thrill of finding things we love. Lately, I have gotten rid of stuff that we  just didn't love because I do not want to take up space in our current home or in our new home. So I have been a frequent face at the unloading dock at Goodwill.
So I wanted to share a few "new" treasures as well as my new thrifty mantra.

I adore vintage trophies. Adam bought this one for me at an estate auction. He actually missed it when it went on the auction block. So he hunted down the winning bidder and bought it from him for lets just say a few dollars more than it auctioned for. It is from the early 1900s for Iowa farmers for the prized corn of the year. Love. the. history. I love my sweet husband who loves me enough to do such sweet things.

I have noticed a trend in my collection of silver. First it has to be tarnished, useful, not just pretty and would look pretty on my bookcases. The silver flower holds my cough drops on my bedside table. The vintage fan was one of our first finds together and it works. I found the silver frame for one dollar and the sea fan for .25 which I intend on repuposing as jewelery.
So here is to my new treasured goodies. Must be beautiful and/or useful.

House Tour: Master Bath

Our Master Bath is probably my favorite room in our home. The 6 foot jet tub is my nightly retreat after a long day of changing diapers and playing Barbies.
This room is a little difficult to photograph. It has two separate vanities--one for me and one for the mister.

The chandelier was our second wedding anniversary gift to each other (really for me).
I love it and it will be moving on to the next house with us.

I picked out a green (can't remember the name or brand) for this room because it looks out over trees.  I wanted a sense of the outdoors in.

Friday I will be linking up to SUYL over at Kelly's Korner.
Thanks for coming by and do come again.
Have a blessed day!

House Tour: Kids' Rooms

I wanted to share some updated photos of the kids' rooms. I am linking up over at Kelly's Korner.
Remember this home is currently for sale.

I often ponder a name to call my decor style. I love vintage and thrifted finds. I am a self admitted junk junkie. I love the thrill of the hunt. Our rooms are evolved over time, so that means it is never finished.
Amelia's room is very flower garden inspired. We have tons of green, pink and aqua floral prints along with tones of gold and crystal accents. I love her nursery. I feel this design can grow with her.

I haven't shared Weston's room since he has moved up to his big boy bed.
He has been in it since he was one. He will be two in less than two months.
His room is very vintage. The number five is placed around his room as he is the fifth Barney.
I love to upcycle and repurpose. We used a galvanized drink barrel for toys, a plant carrier for a book shelf and an antique shoe shiner box as a diaper caddy.

Olivia's room is ever evolving. She is quite the little decorater. She loves to move things around in her room and the rest of  our home for that matter. She is always tweaking her room. She is so cute. She is such a little homemaker these days.
We flipped her comforter to this side for a change.
Her antique bed was an auction purchase for $11! Still one of my all time best finds!

One of my besties Sydnee came for a visit this weekend and we found the tutus while we were out junking.

Thanks for coming by and have a blessed day!

Home Tour: Dining Room

Today I want to share our dining room on our house tour. Later I will do a walk through, room by room tour. I am linking up over at Kelly's Korner today for SUYL: Dining Rooms.
Please remember to share our house tour with anyone you know looking to purchase a home in the Faulkner County area.

First I must say, in the main areas of our home we do not have any window treatments. We live on a hill in a tree covered lot. There aren't any close neighbors. We love feeling we are living in nature.

Our table is a precious heirloom passed down from Adam's grandmother. Our children are the fifth generation to gather around it.
This is the area that seperates the kitchen from the dining room.
The wood shutters came from an antique dealer from upstate NY.
Some of my silver collection..
I picked up this rendering of Old Main (Go Hogs) that is signed and dated from 1960 at a estate auction for $1!
The parsons chairs were a new (gasp!) purchase from Big Lots three years ago.
The huge mirror and church window mirror were gifts from Adam's mom. The buffet was also from her. We painted it black and distressed it several years ago.
Oh, and notice the highchair out? Yes, that is right, Miss Amelia is now using it.
